- Hi Bob!
-
- Yes, you can run OS2.0 on an A500, I do. You need to buy the 2.1 upgrade
- kit from a mailorder place, comes with the Kickstart ROM and a set of
- disks. Software Hut advertises the 2.1 kit for about $85 and the 3.1 kit
- for $130.
-
- As for the newbie, perhaps these disks were saved from a system running
- 2.1 or above? One of the options added to 2.04 was to enable Workbench to
- show files in a directory even if they had no icons saved with them.
- There were several utilities available for the 1.3 workbench that added
- this same capacity.
-
- If it is important to you to see these files as icons, you'll either have
- to load them (if they are data) into the application and re-save them
- after being sure the program is set to save icons with the files, or copy
- an .info file (icon) of the same type (Project, Disk, Drawer, or Tool) to
- the drawer with the file, and rename it. For example, if your incon;ess
- file is called "Frank", copy the .info file you want to that drawer, and
- rename {whateveritis}.info as Frank.info. You'll have to do this through
- the CLI or Shell.
-
- Hope this helps!
